Introduction and Location

Whale Island, known locally as Đảo Ông, is a serene getaway nestled in a tranquil bay, surrounded by lush mountains, pristine beaches, and floating lobster farms. This destination is not just a stop for relaxation; it is also the first resort in Vietnam to adopt a sustainable tourism model, utilizing solar energy to power the entire facility.

Accessible only by boat, Whale Island has no roads or other forms of transport. Apart from the resort, the island is completely devoid of permanent residents and shops. The island gets its name from the whales that have been spotted in the bay, adding to its local lore.

How to Get to Whale Island

To reach Whale Island, you’ll first need to get to Đầm Môn port, which is approximately 110 km from Nha Trang and about 55 km from Tuy Hòa. You can fly into either Nha Trang or Tuy Hòa and then hire a taxi or shuttle to the port.

The resort also offers a shuttle service from Cam Ranh Airport to Đầm Môn port for around 2,100,000 VND, with a travel time of about three hours. If you prefer to go independently, you can use ride-hailing apps like Grab or rent a motorcycle to reach the port.

The boat ride from Đầm Môn port to Whale Island takes just about 15 minutes. Each room rate includes a round trip; any additional trips will cost an extra 500,000 VND.

Atmosphere and Activities on the Island

Whale Island is relatively small, measuring only about 800 meters at its widest point and 1.2 kilometers at its longest, yet it boasts stunning natural beauty. Here, you won’t find modern amenities like air conditioning, TVs, or swimming pools. Instead, the resort is designed to blend harmoniously with nature, featuring bungalows made of bamboo, wood, and palm leaves.

There’s no shortage of activities on the island, ranging from swimming and snorkeling to hiking and kayaking. This is not just a place to unwind; it’s also an opportunity to engage in exciting adventures amidst nature.

Culinary Experience on Whale Island

Meals at the resort are served as a fixed daily menu, and you can opt for either half-board or full-board accommodation. It’s a delightful experience to savor local dishes in the cozy atmosphere of the island’s restaurant.

Tips for Visiting Whale Island

Before your visit, it’s essential to plan carefully since this is not a spontaneous destination. When you book your stay, the resort will provide detailed information about services, transportation options, and expectations to help you prepare thoroughly.

The best time to visit Whale Island is from March to September, when the weather is pleasant and the sea is calm.
