Is the Amex Platinum Card Worth Your Investment?
If you've heard of the American Express Platinum card, you probably know it's renowned for its elite status in the credit card world. With an eye-watering annual fee of up to $895, you might be wondering if it’s really worth such a hefty sum. However, let me tell you, if you know how to leverage it, the benefits of this card far outweigh the costs.
I’ve held this card for the past five years and have no intention of letting it go. In this post, I’ll share the perks that come with the Amex Platinum card, despite its premium price tag. I’ll also touch on some limitations, such as the increasing crowds in airport lounges and the new restrictions on the number of guests you can bring along.
Benefits of the Amex Platinum Card
Currently, the card is offering an enticing promotion of up to 175,000 flight miles for new members who sign up through a referral link. These reward points can be worth up to $800, depending on how you choose to use them. For instance, I was able to fly business class with Singapore Airlines from San Francisco to Bali for just 107,000 miles, largely thanks to this offer.
Travel Perks
Every year, you can receive $200 in credits for airline fees. Select an airline and get reimbursed for incidental costs such as baggage fees, seat selection, and in-flight meals. Additionally, you can earn up to $600 in credits for premium hotel bookings through Amex Travel.
There was a time when I used this credit at the five-star Prince Gallery Kioicho in Tokyo, and it was an unforgettable experience.

Other Benefits
The Amex Platinum card also comes with a host of additional perks, including $200 in annual Uber Cash, credits for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck, access to premium airport lounges, and much more.
Hotel Experience Benefits
With this card, you can enjoy benefits like room upgrades (if available), complimentary breakfast, early check-in, or late check-out at luxury hotels booked through Amex Travel.
Reward Points
Amex reward points can be transferred to various airline loyalty programs such as Delta SkyMiles, British Airways Executive Club, Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer, and more. This allows you to optimize your travel experience.
Important Notes
Some benefits require you to enroll or activate quarterly to receive credits. While Amex airport lounges can get quite crowded, the quality remains excellent. Keep in mind that you will need to pay extra for any guests you bring along.
I always use my Amex points to book flights because their value is significantly higher that way. This card is truly a worthwhile choice if you know how to make the most of it.
