A Disappointing Flight Experience

Last night, I had an experience on American Airlines that was nothing short of disappointing during my flight from Miami (MIA) to Boston (BOS). Initially, I thought United was bad, but now I realize that AA was even worse.

First off, there were no drinks served before takeoff, even though the plane had been fully boarded for 25 minutes prior to departure. Instead, I found myself waiting at gate E, far from the Flagship and Admirals Club lounges, leaving me no time to visit either.

Exhausting Waits

Instead, I ended up in the Turkish Airlines lounge at E2, which was perhaps the worst lounge experience I've ever had. For some unknown reason, AA had changed our gate from D to E, and then I had to wait an additional hour due to a rocket launch incident at Cape Canaveral. Naturally, no drinks were served during this delay.

Not a single flight attendant moved during that hour. They just gathered at the front and chatted. As for the seating, it was far from comfortable: no pillows, no blankets, and the seats reclined very little. I suppose the service is just as mediocre as other airlines.

Service Quality

The service during the flight was barely average. No one seemed to pay attention to the passengers, and everything moved at a snail's pace. The food and drinks were genuinely disappointing. I ordered the beef ribs, which are touted as a specialty, but they were truly underwhelming.

The meal was lukewarm, and the baked potato was undercooked. The beef had almost no flavor, unlike the fantastic beef dishes I’ve had on other flights. The accompanying corn and bean salad was nothing to write home about. Meanwhile, my travel companion ordered the lemon orzo, which looked like a Greek salad but was far too small.

The Biggest Letdown

The dessert was a thin slice of cake that was overly sweet. They must have really skimped on this dessert. It was genuinely disappointing, especially since there were no warm pastries or crusty bread served. In fact, there weren’t even any warm cookies before landing.

The drinks were equally mediocre. The red wine was quite tannic and not very drinkable. They didn’t offer any unique drink options, just simple ones like vodka or gin.

Waiting at Baggage Claim

After the plane landed about 30 minutes late, I had to wait an additional 30 minutes at baggage claim to receive my first suitcase. A representative from American Airlines' baggage office mentioned that this was considered a decent wait time by their standards, but I think that’s unacceptable.

Honestly, the service at American Airlines is on a downward spiral. Cost-cutting may be the quickest way for them to boost short-term profits, but it’s not a smart choice for attracting customers. Meanwhile, United is improving their service with better experiences, such as more comfortable seating in economy and nicer cabins, which indicates they are gaining an edge in the market.

Honestly, I’m not planning to fly American Airlines again in the future, as what I experienced last night was truly not worth the money.
