Discover Hidden Gems Off the Beaten Path

Have you ever felt overwhelmed by crowded tourist spots where everyone is jostling for the perfect photo? If so, join me as we embark on new adventures in lesser-known destinations, where you can connect with local cultures and experience life in a more authentic way.

1. Sip Coffee on the Ruta de las Flores in El Salvador

The Ruta de las Flores in El Salvador is one of the most exciting emerging destinations for 2026. You'll have the chance to explore charming villages adorned with vibrant wildflowers along the way. During my 9-day trip, I'll visit coffee farms, local markets, and colorful street art murals.

Plus, there's the unique opportunity to take in the serene views of Jaltepeque Bay and search for kingfishers and herons among the mangroves.

2. Discover Baklava Where It All Began in Turkey

If you think Turkey is all about Istanbul, you're missing out on so much more. On my journey through Eastern Turkey, I’ll enjoy lunch prepared by local families at Nahil Guesthouse and learn to make baklava in Gaziantep, a UNESCO-recognized Creative City of Gastronomy.

As I stroll through the streets, I’ll uncover layers of history ranging from Roman times to the Ottoman Empire.

3. Conquer the Tien Shan Mountains in Kyrgyzstan

Kyrgyzstan, with 90% of its land covered in mountains, is shrouded in mystery and allure. On my 10-day trekking adventure, I’ll follow in the footsteps of nomads, marveling at stunning alpine lakes, lush meadows, and snow-capped peaks.

At night, I’ll enjoy the breathtaking experience of sleeping in traditional yurts under a star-filled sky.

4. Escape to the Faroe Islands

The Faroe Islands are a fresh destination for Intrepid in 2026. I’ll kick off my journey in Torshavn, one of the smallest capitals in the world, wandering through ancient streets dating back to the 14th century. Here, I’ll explore unspoiled nature and conquer Slaettaratindur, the highest peak.

And remember Kalsoy? It was featured in the James Bond film "No Time to Die."

5. Experience Indigenous Life in Mexico

Pueblos Mancomunados, eight remote villages in Oaxaca, are connected by rural roads and protected by a community-based ecotourism project. During my 5-day trip, I’ll meet the Zapotec people and learn about their culture.

I’ll also participate in workshops to make pulque and tepache, two traditional Mexican beverages.

6. Discover Wonders in Transylvania, Romania

Transylvania may be famous for its eerie tales, but it has so much more to offer. On a ten-day trek along Via Transilvanica, I’ll explore stunning murals at the Sucevita Monastery and admire intricate details at the Painted Egg Museum.

7. Witness a Solar Eclipse in Greenland

On August 12, 2026, a remarkable natural phenomenon will occur in Scoresby Sound, Greenland, a place where few have the chance to witness such an event. I’ll join a luxury cruise featuring exciting activities like Zodiac boat rides and relaxing in Jacuzzis and saunas.

8. Live with Reindeer Herders in Mongolia

If you want to experience a tech-free lifestyle, visit the Tsataan reindeer herding families in Mongolia. During my 14-day trip, I’ll live alongside them, participate in daily activities, and reconnect with nature.

Afterward, I’ll unwind by the stunning Khovsgol Lake.

9. Trek the Salkantay in Peru

No need to follow the crowded Inca Trail; I can choose the challenging yet rewarding Salkantay trek. The route leads me through snow-capped mountains and cloud forests, perfect for adventure enthusiasts.

10. Support Indigenous Tribes in Indonesia

If you’re tired of the Bali scene, why not try trekking on Sulawesi Island? While I’m there, I’ll meet the Toraja tribal people, share meals, and learn about their unique funeral customs.

Additionally, I’ll participate in a community project focused on mangrove conservation and seaweed harvesting in Putondo.

11. Meet a Female Leader in Sierra Leone

If you want to explore Sierra Leone's recovery post-war, visit Tiwai Island, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Here, I’ll discover diverse ecosystems and meet one of the country’s rare female leaders.

12. Explore the Land of Saudi Arabia

Finally, I’ll embark on the Saudi Arabia Expedition in the Asir Province, renowned for its spices and rich cuisine. I’ll wander through local markets and savor traditional dishes like haneeth, a delicious roasted lamb dish.

These experiences promise to create unforgettable memories on my journey to explore the world.
