I had an amazing week in Germany and Switzerland, where spring flowers were in full bloom, making every moment memorable.

An Unforgettable Trip

This year, I spent a wonderful week in Germany and Switzerland, and I’d love to share some photos from this journey that capture why I adore short getaways in Europe. Although I had to miss Copenhagen due to family reasons, I fully enjoyed everything that Germany and Switzerland had to offer.

Days in the Black Forest

I stayed at my in-laws' home in the Black Forest, near the borders of Switzerland and France, while my son headed to the Alps for skiing. Meanwhile, I spent quality time with my daughter, Claire Marie, and we relaxed together. I managed to balance my work so I could take her out for coffee, ice cream, and evening strolls.

Adventure in Basel

One day, Claire Marie and I cycled to Basel for coffee. The weather was chilly but not too harsh, and the spring flowers had just begun to bloom. It’s a lovely place that I hope to spend more time in during future visits.

Quality Time with My Daughter

With my son away in Switzerland, it was just Claire Marie and me. She was at a sports camp all day from 9 AM to 4 PM. During the rest of the time, I worked and then spent time with her. Each morning, I woke up early to work out and get things done, not taking a break even while in Germany.

Post-Workout Meals

After exercising, I often indulged in döner for some protein and enjoyed an afternoon coffee before picking up Claire Marie. I hadn’t had many opportunities to take her out like I used to when she was my only child, so this week was a great chance to make up for that, even if it was just for walks and ice cream.

Sunday Church Trip

Claire Marie and I also attended church together on Sunday, taking the train (as she was too young to cycle far). After church, we ran into trouble when our train was canceled due to an incident in Germany, which made our return journey much longer.

Exploring Basel

In Switzerland, supermarkets are open on Sundays, and Claire Marie wanted to buy an apple before heading to church. Basel is always such a beautiful city. We had a great time, despite the hiccups along the way.

Walking and Life in Germany

Whenever I’m in Germany, I always walk much more than I do in the U.S. While walking may seem more time-consuming than driving, it feels amazing to rack up 20,000 steps a day without stepping onto a treadmill. I plan to return to Germany this summer when the kids will spend more time with their grandparents there.
